'Mankind’ is the central work of a series sculptures made in between 1978 and 1986, based on 3D-freeze of Pompeïans during the dramatic moments after the eruption of the Vesuvius at 79 AD. Originally positioned against a wall for an exhibition in Gallery Aorta in 1984, the figure is in delicate balance with its surrounding environment. The intransigent balance between man and nature was perfectly petrified by this natural phenomenon. . Originally made for an exihibtion against a wall in Aorta in 1984, the figure is in a deplorable balance with the surrounding architecture.
